My 2027 Reading List

Imagine this scenario. You’re stranded on a deserted island and given all the survival manuals you’ll need. You are allowed to take 20 books with you but they must last you the rest of your life. (I know this is scary. I have about 13,000 ebooks, but bare with me.)

My list will be vastly different from anyone else’s because, first of all, I read nonfiction 99% of the time. And second of all, I’m a writer and I value my technical writing books. But it’s a fun experiment and I think you’ll get a kick out of it if you’ll just try it.

I’d love to hear your top book selections in the comments below. (Fiction and Nonfiction.) Here’s my list in no real order. (The links are affiliate links, because why not make a few cents off this post? I own every book on this list, by the way, some in paperback and digital and there are only a few I haven’t read already.)

My goal for 2027 is to read (or re-read) every book on this list and I’m seriously thinking about ordering a new Kindle Paperwhite so I can read them without any distractions.

  1. The Bible (Actually a 66 book collection and the wisest pick if you could only bring one book.)

  2. Win the Day: 7 Daily Habits to Help You Stress Less and Accomplish More by Mark Batterson (I’m still reading this one but I’ve highlighted so much already.)

  3. Creating Short Fiction by Damon Knight No one has ever “got me” as a writer like this guy has. I want to read this every year to keep me grounded.

  4. How to Write Dazzling Dialogue by James Scott Bell (What writer doesn’t want to be dazzling?)

  5. Chasing Failure by Ryan Leak

  6. Lifelong Writing Habit by Chris Fox (Serious motivation for writers.)

  7. Master of One: Find and Focus on the Work You Were Created to Do by Jordan Raynor

  8. The Emotional Craft of Fiction by Donald Maass (This book made me a lot of money and was worth every penny I paid for it.)

  9. Understanding Show, Don’t Tell by Janice Hardy (Helping me get started writing again.)

  10. Called to Create by Jordan Raynor

  11. The Fire in Fiction by Donald Maass

  12. Atomic Habits by James Clear

  13. Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson

  14. The Power to Change by Craig Groeschel (I’m finding anything by Mark Batterson or Craig Groeschel is going to be a good read and I automatically buy them when they’re on sale.)

  15. Dangerous Prayers by Craig Groeschel

  16. Stuff Christians Like by Jonathan Acuff (This is exactly what I need to read to write my web novel.)

  17. Invisible Ink by Brian McDonald

  18. Slaying the Giants in Your Life by David Jeremiah

  19. The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book by David Jeremiah

  20. The Lost Art of Disciple Making by LeRoy Eims

I can’t wait to see your lists. If you don’t want it posted publicly then send me an email at hello@ChristianBookFinds.com. I’ll be sure to watch for sales on the books I see listed the most.
