Sheila’s review is below. I’ve been making a list of interesting books I’ve found in Christian categories on Amazon and she chose this book from the list. Neither of us has had any contact with the author or publisher regarding this book. (I purchased the book and gifted it to her to review.)

Amazon has it listed as 322 pages and it’s categorized as “Christian Futuristic” and “Christian Science Fiction”. It was published in January 2022 and book two in the series is set to release in May.

About the Author

Mark Goodwin is the author of many Christian Post-Apocalyptic fiction books. He’s also the host of the popular Prepper Recon Podcast which interviews patriots, preppers, and economists each week.

I love the disclaimer at the bottom of his Amazon book page, “As with all works by Mark Goodwin, this book contains no profanity and no embarrassing sex scenes. However, if you're offended by conservative principles and references to Scripture, this book might not be for you.” It seems he often touches on controversial subjects and realizes not everyone will enjoy his fiction, but in the book writing business we call that owning your “niche”.

Book Description

It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.

John Philpot Curran

Jennifer Martin struggles to keep her small business afloat in the aftermath of a global pandemic. But when a blast from the past informs her of a plan to take down America, she realizes the pandemic was only the opening act. Death and destruction hang like a dark cloud over the horizon. Jennifer must steel herself for the trouble to come.

Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

Government intervention during the pandemic has weakened the economy and the social fabric of the nation. Nevertheless, bureaucrats and lawmakers refuse to change course and double down on the failed policies that have crippled the country. Rising prices and labor shortages are pushing Jennifer Martin’s small Atlanta restaurant to the brink of destruction.

A bitter red pill.

After years of being out of touch, Lucas McIntosh shows up at Jennifer’s doorstep. He tells her about his dishonorable discharge from the Army and about the purge designed to cleanse the military of patriots and conservatives.
New laws serve to exacerbate the growing food shortage in America. Paired with crippling inflation, the scarcity triggers food riots across the country.

And a fatal false flag.

Shortly after the riots are brought under control, a cyber-attack brings down the electrical grid sending the country into total chaos. The assault is blamed on a group of malcontents who believe the last US election was rigged. But Lucas believes this narrative is only a ruse intended to further divide the fractured nation.

With so many already in dire straits, the power outage pushes people to the edge. The crisis brings out the worst in humanity, turning average citizens into desperate savages. Jennifer and her small group of friends will have to stick together and be smart if they have any hope of surviving the turmoil.

Sheila’s Review of False Flag

With this book being published this year (2022), the story is pulled right from the headlines of our news. The plot weaves a story around a pandemic, a vaccine—the "jab," riots, cyberwarfare, a stolen election, and many more things. I found myself at times actually looking up things I read to see if indeed they were true (which I like in a book since I read not only for entertainment but also to learn).

Once I started reading, it was hard to put down. Characteristic of a suspense novel, it was full of twists and turns that had me guessing what would happen. Additionally, there was definitely a faith element, and there were topics that the author hits hard from a Biblical perspective. There was some killing in the book although it wasn't on the graphic side, and there was no swearing.

While I liked the book, I know this book will not be for everyone. It has a very political side to it (talks about the pandemic, the vaccine, a stolen election, etc.). It is fiction, but it is easy to see how it mirrors our current society in many ways.

If you like reading a story that mirrors our society today and points out some of our failings of the current day, this book will probably be for you.
